It May Be Spring
But, It’s Harvest Time!
(part two)

“One sows and another reaps…”
(See John 4:34-38)

God was at work before they arrived. The disciples failed to see the harvest because they didn’t understand how God works. The harvest did not happen in a day. The work in God’s field had taken place over time.

The people of the village knew they had a need and they had heard of a coming Messiah. God had been working in their hearts before the disciples arrived. Jesus said,
“I sent you to harvest a field you never worked.
Without lifting a finger, you have walked in on a field worked long and hard by others.” (Jn 4:38 The Message)

As we encounter the people in our world, we need to know that God is already working in their lives. At first, you may not see it; they may not recognize it either; but God may be using His creation, His patience and His love to draw them to Himself.

Probably, they can’t explain it. They have no words to describe it. But, deep down they know that there is something missing. Their lonely hearts may be searching for lasting relationships and purpose, but they are trying to ignore their need and fill the emptiness with temporal things,

That’s why we have to understand how God does the work in His field. We don’t cause the harvest. We can’t control the timing of the harvest. Our job is simply to cooperate with the Lord of the harvest.

He may use us to sow—or, to reap. That is His decision, not ours. Our responsibility is to be available to Him.

Father,
Give me a deep conviction that You are at work before I arrive. Help me to see that You use some to sow and others to reap. Use me in the work of Your field. I don’t have to understand what You are doing—or the timing of Your work. But, I am available and long for You to work through me for Your Glory!

I pray in Jesus’ Name, Amen
